Erin and the triplets went for their 31 week check up on Thursday Morning May 22, 2008. We had the sonogram and the babies looked great. Baby A weighed in at 3 pounds 11 ounces, Baby B 4 pounds, and Baby C was 3 pounds 4 ounces. After they performed the sonogram, they monitored the babies heart rates and Erin's contractions. The contractions showed up as two minutes apart on the machine. Erin was only feeling 1 contraction about every 20 minutes. They sent us straight up to labor and delivery for tests. there it was discovered that Erin was dilated 3 centimeters and the contractions started to occur more and more. They gave Erin an IV, a steroid for the babies lung and brain development, and started a process that reduces the contractions. Erin received large doses of Magnesium which started to reduce the contractions after about a half an hour to every 4-5 minutes.
The first goal or hurdle is to get the full effects of the steroids. They started them on Thursday at 12:30 PM and will be fully absorbed by the babies Saturday at 12:30PM.
At this moment the contractions are about ten minutes apart. Doctors are somewhat optimistic that Erin can last longer than Saturday, but things could always change at any moment.
We want to personally thank everyone for their phone calls, prayers, and support. We will keep everyone updated.
