Hannah's first official week of school went well. When I told her Monday night that she was going to school tomorrow, she acted surprised and said, "I'm going back?" So I guess she thought it was a one time thing. She loves getting on the bus with all of the big kids in the neighborhood. She also started dance this week and loved it! I signed her up for dance on Tuesdays when Miss Liz is here so that I could take her and have special time with her.
Tom and I took the girls back to the GI doctor on Wednesday. It was a long day for everyone. The doctor is in Leesburg and we were gone around 5 hours with driving time. Taking three babies anywhere is time consuming. Hannah did not understand why Daddy and Mommy were leaving with the babies and she was going to school. The appointment went well and the girls are growing. If there is one thing that is truly the same about all three girls, it is that they love to eat. When we first arrived at the doctors and got all the girls undressed and on the table with the noisy paper they were so happy. They were all three laughing and smiling and kicking for about 40 seconds and then the screaming began. I think everyone knew that we had arrived.
Brynn: Is still really struggling with reflux. She had a reflux episode this week that set her monitor off at 4am. Very scary! So she is now taking more prevacid, more reglan, getting more rice cereal in her bottle and trying mylanta between the other meds. She is also scheduled to have an upper GI. On a positive note, she is 10 pounds 12 ounces. She is getting so big. The doctor said she may be overeating due to the reflux. When she feels good she is so happy. She is my sensitive one. She likes her own personal space and hates when her sisters invade that space. She is very animated like Hannah and everyone that sees her now says she looks the most like Hannah.
Lexi: She is the one that does not seem to have reflux as bad. She is the happiest and the most content I think mainly because she feels better than her sisters. Somedays I feel really bad because Brooke and Brynn are so fussy that they receive so much of my time and poor Lexi ends up in the swing for hours. She is still the smallest weighing 9 pounds 3 ounces. For her adjusted age she is in the 20th% which is good considering her birth weight. She may be the smallest, but I know she is the strongest, loudest (when she becomes mad) and I think the toughest of the three.
Brooke: She is doing so much better with her reflux. It is so weird because she was the most severe in the beginning. We are hopeful that she will soon get off her monitor. She weighed 10 pounds 1 ounce. Her only change was increased prevacid because her weight had increased. Her new favorite thing is bath time and new least favorite thing is getting out of the bath. She screams the moment she leaves the water. She wakes up so happy every morning. I wish I could freeze her like that for the rest of the day!!
Friday of this week the girls had their first infant massage session. The purpose is for them to receive a massage and for me to learn so that I can use it daily (or as it fits in the schedule). I was really excited because I have been told it can really help with calming and with digestion - both of which they could really use. Amy, the massage therapist, was great and so excited to get her hands on the girls. Brynn was out like a light (this would never happen if I wanted her to sleep), Lexi who is usually the calm one was unhappy the moment she walked in, and Brooke seemed ready to go. So we started Brooke with leg and foot massage. This only lasted until Amy touched Brooke's foot the first time and then she went crazy. After talking with Amy, many babies who have spent time in the NICU have sensitive feet, due to the fact the they have heel sticks for blood draws almost daily. So I have three babies all of whom could benefit from massage therapy and I learned on a .....babydoll!
They will each have two more sessions so we will be hopeful that they will go better than the first!
